Exclamation '84 300D-T electrical woes

I've got an '84 300D turbo that's pretty sweet except for a few nagging problems. I'll start with the electrical since they're the most serious. My headlights go out sporadically. Sometimes it's from hitting a bump, sometimes it's from the turn signal cancelling, there's no rhyme or reason. If I pull back on the brights lever, they come back on. If I push forward into brights, I have nothing. Also, when I turn my headlights on, my fuel guage jumps forward. It will even click in time with the turn signal. Last, are parking light lamps the same as turn signals? I have a side that flashes but will not come on in parking lamps. Add that into a sticking odometer, possessed suspension, and a rear axle that I just fixed with carquest cheapies that failed immediately and it's going to be a full weekend.

I would suspect the turn signal/high beam switch if that is what causes the lights to go off and come back on. The front turn signals are duel filament bulbs with the parking lights, so replace the bulb. The rear turn signals are separate bulbs.

Check the soldered electrical connections behind each light. I have had some crazy electrical probs and they were in that area.
