Hello everybody

Hi there. Not sure if I'm introducing myself in the correct section, but, here it goes. My name's Ken, and I live in upstate NY, about an hour north of albany. I was referred t this forum by a member, not sure his username yet, I'll post that if he allows later on.

For the honest truth, I'm about to pick up a 81 240d wiht a manual transmission. The bad news - the car is completely rusted out, beyond repair. The car runs, and only has 141k on the odometer. I'm looking to part the car out. I would love to sell off the manual transmission as a complete conversion kit for somebody looking to so a swap, trans, clutch assembly, driveshafts, hydraulics, the works. BUT. I would LOVE some info from you guys as to what should be taken apart how, where, and what needs to be done during dissassembly so that the correct parts don't get mis-matched, forgotten, etc. I long to own a 300td someday, but finances do not allow it, not with student loans and credit card debt at the moment. So, ya, I dunno where else to go. Appreciate any and all help. Thanks.

Also, what are some of the aprts on this car worth, realistically? I honestly have no idea of their value. From owning older 5 Series BMW's, I would assume similar values would hold true. AM I way off in thinking that the manual transmission conversion kit could be worht near $1000, as long as I included EVERYTHING to make the swap? What about interior parts, or the engine itself?

The conversion kit is a bit on the high side at $1000. It will sell for about $500- $700 or so, IMHO. Remember, there are not that many folks who have the skills and the time to make that swap. It's not a walk in the park.

Those that have the skills might seek to purchase the entire vehicle........a rust bucket that you discussed will sell for less than $1000. The engine has some value to someone who needs it.

Hmm, that should still be fine. Is there any idiocincracies (sp?) of removing the trans setup from the car that could/would make it easier for re-installation in another car? possibly by leaving certain components together as 1 unit, or taking everythign apart individually?
