w126 hood scoops?
 

take a look what somebody did to their 300SE. Installed hood scoops. Then a mechanic told them it had too high compression for that. Heck of a way to mess up a nice hood!

Why would high compression have anything to do with hood scoops? Am I missing something?

The ad says he wanted to turbo it and his mechanic said the engine's CR is too high.

When they designed the 126, they went to great lengths to make it as aerodynamic as possible. For such a large car, it has a surprisingly low C.D.. Now with hood scoops, that is probably fouled up. So now the top speed of the car is lower. Good job.

MoFo interior didn't get much of the bling money

I have considered adding a hood scoop to primairily to make room for an intercooler. I pretty much ruled it out because I don't want to carve up my cars good looks. Hood scoops usually don't get much air flow unless they are right up front or stick up high out of the hood. This is because the front of the car creates a bow wave of air that flows over the top of the scoop.

Now if I find another 300SD in 'impossible to keep clean dark green' color in a junk yard I may buy the hood to experiment with. That way I will not permanently defile the looks or aerodynamics of my Benz.

There's also the problem of letting pressurized air out of the engine compartment if you scoop the hood.

I think on a 126 the best place for an IC might be right on the point of the chin, under the top edge of the front bumper since there's a HUGE volume behind that bumper on USA models. Careful alteration and added openings might do the trick and not look too stupid either.

I should have gone into more detail, I'm thinking of using an Air/Water intercooler. I just have nowhere to put it. I would just need the hood scoop to provide space. I would run the water cooling radiator else where (probably in front next to the regular radiator). I might have a small cooling radiator in the scoop to take advantage of the little air flow that the scoop provides, but I'm not counting on the scoop to provide air flow, just space.
