Startron works great!
I have used about half a bottle of Startron fuel additive made by Starbrite. And my algea problem seems to be gone! Biobor wasn't cutting it on this stuff I ran a whole bottle through and was still going through a set of filters ever few tank fulls. I changed my fuel filters last on Jan 28th and they still seem to be clean!
This stuff seems to work as advertised, thanks to whoever discovered it!

They just opened a West Marine store in my neighborhood. I think I will try this stuff.

I have been touting it like wild since I had the same results . Nice to hear someone else getting good results.
P'mari turned me on to it, by suggesting the Tank cleaner, but I got the diesel additive. I will ALWAYS use this stuff! aa

If the above was true, I'd conclude that the Startron isn't doing anything and the Biobor is slowly eliminating your problem over time. I can have a tank with heavy fungus and have clean filters as well. Just continue to run diesel fuel through it. |

Well if you could read it then what would be the challange?
Ever since I started driving this car back in Oct I have been going through fuel filters like crazy. I started adding shock levels of Biobor when I bought it. Both products seem to be good at killing the algea, I think I may have just finally filtered it all out of the tank. I know the Biobor was working because my fuel filters will full. I am just happy I havn't had to change fuel filters since Jan 28th, those canister filters add up!

Now, if the consumption of filters stops the moment you switch to the Startron, I conclude that this is a bad thing. Or, it might just be a coincidence...........take your pick. |

The closest I got to a bottle of it was driving by a store that sells it. From this I would figure it did the same for Hatterasguy too. Even though he used Biobor prior to StarTron. This stuff is extremly popular among boat owners for good reason. If interested, read the technical page: http://www.starbrite.com/whatsnew/2004%20BoatUS%20Ad%20(Startron).PDF

Startron isn't popular at all Biobor is the king in my area at least.
Well Brian filters are $10 each and I am sick of spending money on them, so the algea can live in peace for all I care as long as I don't have to change them constantly.

Does that crap stop at the primary if you don't produce too much of it........or will it always make it to the secondary?? Primaries are cheap.........I don't mind changing a bunch of them. |

ValvTect Bioguard and Startron is what I use.
I have NEVER had a clogged filter, ever....(hope I didn't just jynx myself
The active enzyme in Startron is the same in both formulas, tank cleaner and fuel additive. The idea is to dissolve the slime (biofilm) that the HUMbugs produce, so it will not clog filters. The bio film is what allows the individuals to form a colony and grow in an interface between the fuel and water. This slime is what clogs filters. There is also another biocide that claims to dissolve or break down the clumps and strands of bug jelly. It's called ValaTect bioguard http://www.valvtect.com/products.asp#Bio Biobor is based on borate. ValveTec is a chemical pestacide.

FWIW, I used a bottle of Startron last year. I noticed small, dark particles knocking around in the primary. Now, I know that I do indeed have a tank crud problem as below a 1/4 tank I get momentary fuel starvation if I try to accelerate along a 270 degree highway entrance ramp. I don't think the Startron caused it, but I think it may be better at dissolving existing crud than actually killing it.

Yes Pete, that is how it works. It destroys the biofilm which is necessary for the bugs to live in large colonys. So startron doesn't actually kill the critters, it kills their interface. Without the interface they can't live off the hydrocarbons in the fuel. That's the hook, and why you have to continually use it. I guess eventually they may starve to death, but somhow I doubt it.

According to its literature, StarTron breaks up the fungus into tiny particles and that's why you're less likely to have clogged filters. Biobor and similar products just kill the fungus without breaking it up.
