Question diesel purge filter questions

I appreciate the responses to my earlier questions as a new diesel owner. Several people have suggested that I do a diesel purge on my 84 Diesel Turbo. I was sent the DIY article but I am a little unclear on a couple of things. I can see where the inline fuel filter is, but where is the spin-on filter located and how is it accessed??? Also, do I have to worry about priming the filters when I change them?? I've read some articles that discuss how hard it is to restart the engine after changing fuel filters. If it helps any I have the 5 cylinder engine. Thanks!!

Hello & welcome!

The screwon fuel filter is located about a foot forward & up from the pre filter near the fuel pump. Like a small spin-on oil filter. It's under an aluminum housing by the cruise actuator. It is held on with a fairly large bolt from the top. Yes, the fuel system & filter should be primed for an easier start.
Have you found the online service manual yet? skinnerbox.steaky.org
is one of them, Paul.
