Shifting Jerk

I drive my MB everyday on my way to work. It's about 30miles a day back and forth. It jerks everytime it shifts.. But there are times that it shifts flawlessly. Engaging from park to drive or reverse is ok without any clanking sound. Mechanic says it myt be some bushings on the drive shaft or the drive shaft needs a rebuild. Any idea why it is so?

Have you checked your vacuum system lately?

Does it "jerk" on all shifts?

It's somewhat common for a "jerk" on the 1-2.

If it's jerking on the 2-3 or the 3-4, you have a vacuum leak somewhere or the vacuum control valve has failed. The modulator is not getting the proper vacuum.

Confirm this by hooking a vacuum gauge inline with the transmission. If the gauge reads close to zero all the time, you have confirmed your problem.

Got it!

Thanks to all your responses. I had the mechanic checked my vac pressure and they changed some vac connections. It shifts smoothly now.
