12 volt oil changer

Came across this oil changer. A little pricey,,, looks like one could make a copy for far less money.

Don't you already have a wrench that will fit the drain plug? That will save you the most money.

Good luck,

And there's no advantage to this unit over a vacuum-operated top-sider.

If you really wanted one, you could make it much cheaper.

12vdc pump at harbor freight - $30
Tubing - $5
Bucket - $4
Switch - $1

But I agree with Larry - open the drain plug.

Personally, I couldn't care less about the 12vt oil changer.(Unless I broke my back and could no longer crawl under my car.)
I simply posted the url for those members using the blue can and might prefer a 12vt pump instead of the sickly intermittant suction of their blue cans.

I doesn't matter which method you use, drain plug or vacuum, the OM617 was designed to use vacuum as the preferred method of extraction, but they're both good ways, one way does not get more oil out more than the other.

I found it at W123.net, if you don't believe me, extract the oil out through the dipstick using a vacuum extractor, then unscrew the drain plug, no oil will come out.

Good luck,
X2... reach under the car and remove plug (it is not that far under), and use a shallow drain pan... you won't even have to jack the car up.

I haven't done it myself (yet), but that's what I heard from the MBCA technical advisor.

well my opinion on it is that its really hard to get a little hose to suck all the crap out unless you can get it flat on the lowest possible point in the pan. but that still leaves the oil that is dripping out of the pump, off the crank and everything else inside.
