cd deck only works with light on?

i have this odd issue. my 300D just got a new CD deck, and i thought i got the wires correct. if found the constant 12v line and the ignition wire and tested both. they worked and i connected them to the corresponding wires on the back of the deck. then when i went to test it, it wont work.

so i was confused but thought about turning my lights on and then the deck worked perfectly. i have the deck playing right now with no the key in the ignition. if i turn the lights off then the radio turns off. the constant 12v works great as it keeps the settings. but my lights and not my ignitions turns the radio on.

if i leave the lights off and turn the ignition nothing happens and i cant turn the radio on.

i checked all my fuses and they all work.

what is going on?

Time to recheck your wiring.

Do the radio presets still stay after you remove your key?

It sounds like you wired the lighting trigger to the +12 volt in line.

found it. wow the black wire from the benz was my ignition... odd but now it works just as it is supposed too.
