Did I go overboard on my blockheater?

Last Fall I installed a block heater on my 83 300SD. I bought one from JC Whitney that pumps water from the bottom of the engine, warms it in a canister and pumps it back into the top of the engine. It works very well but it is a 1500 watt heater. Come to find out that the freezeplug type blockwarmers are 400 watt! I geuss the engine cant be to warm when its off.

Wow! Where do you live? Cold climate? I would definately put that on a timer or your electric bill will be very high, I bet it'll work really well though.

warm is good. an instant on heater is a nice thing. -5 tomorrow morning (53405) -23 wind chill. i hope all you southern folks enjoy the warmth you have and stop complaining it is too early in the season to so warm.
