Duct board hood pad

I used 1" air conditioning duct board to fashion a new hood pad....got the idea off this forum, thanks!

tools: Razor knife, steel yard stick, tape measure

Bought a 4'x10'x1" piece of duct board, cut it down to 57" x 36", laid it across the engine fiberglass face up, measured the hood, and transfered the dimensions to the duct board, cut it with a razor knife ( and cut it about 1/2" wide), and then bowed and wedged it into the channels on the side of the hood, foil side out.

Very simple project, took about 30 minutes...measure twice, cut once, and looks good. The foil backing bounces a lot of light back into the engine bay, a plus in my dark shop. BUT, it really cuts down on the engine noise, much nicer!

I bought this board at the only A/C place in our little town and paid $42.00 and used less than half. If you do this project, take some rough measurments...mine were 57"x36" and see if your shop doesn't have some cut off pieces, less waste that way.

BTW, I used a propane torch and a scrap piece of the duct board....could not get the fiberglass to burn, it would get red-hot but no burn...the foil would try to burn, but remove the heat source and it would go right out. That got me thinking about a few other noise-reduction modifications...like wrapping the mufflers! Saw that on this forum too!
