saw an ad for a 1991 350SD in Orlando, FL

I search cars.com fairly regularly just to see if any M-B of interest turns up within striking distance. Today I noticed a 1991 350SD for sale in Orlando:

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?paId=191369194.

I am not in any way associated with the seller, nor do I have any knowledge of this particular vehicle other than what I've read in the ad. I mention it here in case someone happens to have a hankering for that particular (and none too common) package.

The thought of a SWB W126 with the 3.5L turbodiesel has some serious appeal to me, but the risks involved put it outside my personal comfort zone.

I wouldn't touch that thing unless it had a brand new 3.5L OM603 with the flaw correction placed in it at one time in the past.

Wow look at the pics, and model. Such a rear W126! Short wheel base W126's feel far more nimble around town. Throw in a 603(with more torque down low!) and all of the late W126 updates. I bet it has neat goodies like ASR, better stereo, ect. If I were in the market I'd be looking at plane tickets.

Who cares if the engine blows any engine can blow thats life. If it does cough up $4k for a short block and keep driving, life goes on.

If I ever buy another diesel W126 to keep that is the model I will hunt down, I want black though.

I've read at least some of your comments in the past about the SWB W126, and also of your preference for the 603.

I suspected that, if any one here would groove on this car, it would be you!

One here was black with a grey interior.

bet a beer

the 240 is actually a four speed.

the 350 looks pretty clean. i bet he has been getting it serviced at the dealer and is feeling pretty hosed at present. all those things seem like what they might have you doing at a dealer.

no way of telling the actual condition of the engine... without actually going down there.

No don't offer me another W126 I already have two!! Black on gray is a real sharp combo though.

The 350SD is my favorite diesel W126, I think they only built like 2,300 of them.

Ditto, I have the 420 still until I get it up and running well enough to give as a gift... just picked up a BMW today too.

I totally agree, especially since im having a hard time finding a used engine for my 87 300SDL. with only a little over 2000 350SDLs made id imagine used parts would be a real pain to locate and come w a high price tag.

I dont like the color combo at all. If the interior was gray or black i'd probably have a different opinion but i just dont like the blue interior w the white exterior.

Well their were many more 350SDL's, and not to mention they used the 3.5L 603 up until 1995 in the S350D. So actualy the engine itself is pretty common as far as MB's go.

Part of the downside of having a somewhat rare car is that locating used engines is hard. But these were not cheap cars new and were never intended to be cheap cars.

I dislike white cars, to plain.
