Peanut oil

I have used canola oil before mixed with gas. Just stopped in a bar and got there oil. They use peanut oil. Anybody ever use peanut oil? Just wondering if one oil is better than another-or are they all the same.As long as it is clear when cold.thanks.

I heard that peanut oil has some kind of gum in it, that will cause problems.
But according to some of the info at biodiesel infopop peanut oil makes good bd, and looks like several people have been using it as VO with success.

Oil that is "better" is 100% liquid non-hydrogenated oil. If it was solid before it was put in the fryer; ala crisco shortening...don't bother.

Then you want to find oil that is not used to fry meats; then the less the better. The more meat, the more sat. fat in the oil from the meat, which will solidify.

** If you have a FULLY heated system from tank to IP, then this doesn't apply.

I am with Biodiesel300TD. I found using waste peanut oil filtered to .5 micron left my filler neck and fuel cap gummy.

Its funny how a lot of the biodiesel site I have read all say how Rudolf Diesel ran his first engine on a vegetable oil. But the facts I have read said his first engine ran on powdered coal.

From what I read I think his first major debut of his engine at the world fair ran on peanut oil.

Peanut oil is good to cook with since it has a high flash point.

I believe there were some politics at play at that time, I heard something like they had an abundance of Peanuts in Africa or similar and that led him to run with peanut oil at a show.

Remember, just because Rudolph Diesel had his "diesel" engine run on peanut oil (after almost blowing up himself with his coal dust engine), it doesn't necessarily mean that it was the BEST oil to work in that engine, or that it might not cause problems in our vehicle engines now.

Does anyone have any proof that he did research on the best types of oil to use? Negative aspects of different types of oils?

IOW.....does anyone know if peanut oil is safe to use?

At sams club, where you can get clean oil in cubies, the "clear fry oil" which is just soybean oil, is about $12 a cubie, canola is $13-14 or so, and peanut oil, which also looks a little darker/thicker, is $18 a cubie! I'll be likely using clear fry oil some of the time this spring/summer, and am also going to look for a source to get some clean wvo around here that I can just mix with RUG and run after some filtering.

I have a clear fry cubie on my porch that is awaiting warmer weather for a test run The oil seemed to stay diesel-ish in how liquid it was even around 15-20 degs.....thats probably a good sign.
