Engine prices for a 300sdl

Are the prices for a used 87 300sdl negotiable or are they pretty firm. After one false start to procure my new/used motor I am just about ready. Including shipping I was quoted from $1800 to $3000 for this engine, including the bolt ons. Is this the right range, I know one board member purchased one for $1300. Would like to stay around the 150K range or less. Any advice is appreciated.

What exactly is blown on yours? Because if you are going to spend $3k on an engine you could probably have your bottom end rebuilt.

used SDL engine

I payed 1,350.oo for a 131 k engine delivered with 6 month warranty!
It took twice as long to get, the guy's pretty mutch a goof and they had a hell of a time running my credit card but in the end I am pretty happy with what I got! (SO FAR)(BIG PICTURE)
Included was all the accessories!
I had to keep on the guys ass everyday to get the engine to me!
Orginally he said it would take 5days and it took two weeks!
He's in the process of doing me a favor and I told him I would give him good points to the group if he did...so we will see!
it's eurasianforeign in CO. the owners name is Mike!

you can email him direct at eurasianforeign@aol.com

Tell him Alan in phoenix refered! dont let on my report on him but just keep on top of him if you decide to go with it!

Also
I understand another member has contacted him recently and the'res another engine available!

The e-mail I had with him said he had onel that was in the car he is currently driving. That was about six weeks ago. Thanks for the reply. As far as my current engine, we are going to pull the head and see what we got. I plan on getting the oil tested to see what's up with that. Wish me luck and any ideas, I wish to make this my daily driver and get rid of my Suburban, it's a great kid hauler!:D

Why did it stop running? Have a leak down test done unless it was very badly abused or ran without out oil the bottom end is probably fine. You could probably get away with a rebuilt head.

$1100-1800 seems okay to me for a complete one, intake to oil pan.

My wife took it on a four hour trip and it started running hot, my original mechanic said it blew out the temp sending probe. My father in law and myself are going to remove the head and just see what is what. Someone suggested in an earlier thread to have the oil anylized, which I plan on doing. I may be able to put a new head on it. My biggest problem now is that the car is on the family farm about 150 miles away. My father in law is a great mechanic, when he can get to things. Probably will not be able to pull head until next weekend. Thanks for all advise!

I'd do a little more recon before writing off the entire engine. Was the engine ran until it stalled? Will it still turn over? What are the compression numbers? Was a leak down test done to determine the condition of the bottom end? Will it turn over? Will it run at all? If so what does it do when it runs?

With a 603 simply writing it off can be very expensive. These are pretty rare cars and even finding a used engine at say $1,500 is a crap shoot. Most of these cars seem to have about 200k-250k on them at this point. So any used engine is going to have time on it and need some work.

She said she turned it off, it will turn over, compression came back at 50, not sure how many cylinders he checked, will not run. Looking back, I think either the head was cracked or head gasket was blown at the least because I put antifreeze and water in it a couple of times before she took the trip. I have a feeling the bottom is probably OK. I will just have to find out! Thanks for the info.
