Transmission Temperature Sensor
 

I want one for my 81 300D as I am about to pull a small camping trailer. Any links to part and info about installation would be great. I searched here and googled and did not find anyithing. Tomorrow i will call dealer and see. Did not find one on fast lane.

How about drilling a hole in the pan or finding a test port to stick it in?

Looks nice. THanks. Adding a transmission cooler may be just as easy and cheaper than that perhaps. I called service department at dealer. They dont know of an transmission temp senders and suggested just add a cooler as the one on the bottom of radiator is not that great. I saw one at Advance for 25.00 or so. So I am kind of leaning that way now. I was hoping there would be a simple place to just screw in a temp sensor on tranny. Seems simple enough of a thing to do. But I really dont know.

How about talking to your dealership MECHANICS. They might know. Also, they could tell you where they are sending the tranny for a rebuild and those people might know.

I'm back to liking the gauge idea. I think its a must if you are going to experiment with working out the tranny. I found this B&M one that comes with unit that Ts into line. Now, what is that operating range on an W123 81 300D tranny?:rolleyes: Unfortuneately the Service manual CDS from dealer dont have transmission data :(

In the Jegs one, 220 is the yellow zone. I'd say it is about the same for a 4R100 tranny which is what the 3/4 or 1 ton trucks use too.

However, I don't trust it if you get the reading at the cooler. IMO, it is irrelavant after having cooled off some. I want to know what the pan temp is.

I'm going to call around tomorrow and see what tranny shops are using. It seems like a pretty generic sytem would work. Our pans look similar to the mustangs in that link dont they? I've never taken mine off yet.
