Solenoid post loose/lateral play -- this OK?

While cleaning my solenoid electrical connections, I noticed the stud post the battery connects to moves back and forth in its socket. Is this normal? I am thinking maybe if it\s not , then it could not be making a good connection and be making my starter turn slower than it should and ultimately making my car not start below 35F without a good jump and more cranking than is good for it.

You can tell me to search off if you want. I am going to do that anyway . Just not yet.

thanks

Also, starter grinds and slips off when it is cold.

Someone said it is like the Bendix is not engaging good in cold.

Putting nuts and wires back on today I see that the first nut pulls the post tight to outer solenoid housing . Hopefull this makes a better connection and I start better in cold. That first nut was loose before. I seriously doubt it though.

In tracing out my intermittent start problem. (solenoid clicks, starter won't engage), I too noticed the threaded post on my solenoid that holds the heavy battery wire was loose. It wanted to turn when I tightned the nut after cleaning it. ( I also cleaned all other posts and grounding connections.) I noticed it was rocking a bit before I even disconnected the wire. When problem occurs, a rap to solenoid while holding the key over does the trick.

Question: No doubt this loose stud is my problem, correct?
Looks like pulling the starter is a PIA on this car. Am I right, any suggestions.
One member suggested on another thead of using another solenoid off a Ford and not going through a starter pull. The new solenoid would be monted close by and a heavy jumper utilized. Anyone do this? Specific part number, model/year??
