Got Rear-Ended Today...Opinions Sought

Fortunately (for my SD), it was rainy this morning and I left the Benz in the garage, After all, it was spotlessly clean.
I was stopped at a light in my '92 BMW 535i when some idiot going way too fast for the slick streets couldn't stop and plowed into my car, pushing me into the car in front of me. Now I'm worried whether the damage to the bimmer will be too extensive and result in totalling it. And are they ever the same after being hit? I've had it 8 years and it's a great car. Claims adjuster will be out tomorrow to look at it. This car is not even close in build quality to the SD. Rear bumper (fiberglass type stuff) totally gone, trunk stuck locked and buckled, damage to both rear quarters and the hood and grille pushed back. Front bumper probably toast also. The guy who hit me was driving a mid 80s Buick Park Avenue which was a POS. Fortunately he has insurance.

Thanks for listenin'

I would believe that damage to that degree might have them labeling it totaled, that'd be quite a lot of body work. You never know though, depends on the insurance company.

At least the MB survived.......

Sounds like a total loss. At least you are OK. Do some research on the market value of the BMW. Make sure he doesn't try to stick you. Do you have any receipts from any recent service or parts? If he give you a figure you don't like stick him with the receipts. They have some room to work.
I was always fond of the 5-series. Thought about going there if my Soob ever dies.

I will agree with the chorus; it does sound like a total loss.

The best thing to do is to maximize your recovery for the car. Start
looking for similar cars, clipping ads, doing the basic research.

Most adjusters can pay better for a car if the amount paid out can
stand the scrutiny of review by thier managers. Only you can do this.
Don't wait for them to do it for you. The better your records are in terms
of service, etc. the better.

As to whether or not it can ever be made right, that is a total judgement
call. Again, with the car's age, most insurance companys will just total
it because there will invaribly be " hidden damage". By that I mean the
property damage estimators can only call what they can see. Once the
shop begins the work of tear-down, they almost always find stuff missed.

Anyone who sees me driving and says I am driving too slow either doesn't know there are police abound or needs to get their head checked out :D

But of course I never speed :D

I am on edge much like you guys though...waiting for someone to slam into me :(
