Switchable High/Low Boost

HERE is a link to the article.

I want to set the factory wastegate to 9psi and set the manual boost controller to 13.5psi (Mabye higher settings after I get a pyrometer). The whole idea is about reducing engine stress during day-to-day driving with extra boost for the highway, mountains, etc.

It's a simple setup. It's almost free. (I have PLENTY of vacuum solenoids, tubing, fittings, and switches in my toolbox stash.) All I need to buy is a ball and spring manual boost controller.

What "stress" is bothering you when the engine has 13.5 psi of boost on tap??

Remember, you don't get 13.5 psi unless you wind it up over 3K with your foot on the floor. If you want to "reduce stress", just drive the vehicle with the shifts at 2500 rpm...........or..........if you are really agressive at "reducing stress", allow it to shift at 2000 rpm. It's got plenty of acceleration for leaving stoplights if you hold the pedal so it shifts at 2000 rpm.

The SD has 13.5 psi of boost.......set with the factory wastegate. I use it when I need it (mash right foot and wait for revs to climb above 3K).

After thinking about it last night, there really isn't that much of a need for high/low boost on a diesel. Keeping a good A/F ratio and preventing detonation on a g@sser would be a good reason for this idea.
