Anyone regret selling their W123 diesels?

I am sort of regretting selling my 300CD, It's getting close to a year, since I sold it. I know that thing was falling apart around me, but I miss how she drove, and the sound she made...

I'd like to, but I don't need another endless money pit at this time, maybe some time down the road when I am making enough money...

Getting back into the saddle of one will be something to look forward to, perhaps as a medium range goal. There's always a few on the market here in CA when you're looking again.

YES, indeed! I DO regret selling them both!

I miss the solid feel. The clackety-clack of the 5 cyl while I sat at a red light. THe weaving in and out of traffic in the Detroit area (the turbo afforded me this luxury). and YES I do miss the slow pickup it had from a deadstop. I miss having the accelerator floored and still only accelerating somewhat slowly.

I DON'T miss the door locks freezing up on me in the cold Detroit night. I don't miss having to pull out the 200A starter/battery charger to get it to crank up. I don't miss having to go back outside in the middle of winter because I forgot to plug in the block heater.

Weighing the pros and cons, I would definitely like to have at least one of them back. preferably the '85 300D with 306K on the odometer.

My brother regets getting rid of his. I found him an '82 300CD (turbo diesel) with something like 85,000 miles on it, in excellent shape a few years back. He rapidly put an additional 325,000 on it, (425,000+-) countless speeding tickets allover the US and the legal to make those go away. Seems like it was the harmonic balancer? that grenaded and shredded everything on front of the engine. Towed it home, snagged an '92 350SDL, got a new job and he sold it to a neighbor, FOR A DOLLAR, I kid you not, new suspension, new MB Tex on the front seats & foam etc.

Did not see it for a year. Now I see it all the time blasting down the road. Tried to catch up to him the other day. Kids said hey dad, aren't you driving really fast, about 80 and not closing the gap.

Brother was back in town a few weeks ago, filling up. It was there. The neighbor got some junkyard parts etc. new belts and nothing else, cost $75. The look on my brothers face.... Regret does not describe it. His daughter just turned 16, would have been perfect.

I plan on selling my 85 once I sell the 87. I know I won't regret selling the 87. The 85 OTOH, I wish it had a gasser engine so I wouldn't have to think about selling it. With the mileage the 85 gets, it's just too expensive to drive with the price diesel is nowadays. I haven't driven it since Superbowl Sunday and then I only drove it for about 20 miles.

123c How dare you? NO MB that and saying your Toyota will make up for it that is blasphamy Just kidd'n.

I will never sell. Never Never Never. My wife says one has to go which means the 240 but I'm going to find a way to smuggle/launder the car so I can keep it.

But the 123 will be with me and my kids. One of those classics that stays with the family and tells a story. I'll bring this post back to life in another 50 years as I apprach 1 million on the car

If you see your former car in a much better shape down the road, you'll regret it endlessly. I would guess that if you saw it in a worse condition, you'd also regret it. Either way you'll regret it.

But, if a car were to be sold to a fellow MB enthusiast who will take care of the car just the same or even more than the previous owner then perhaps that will justify selling it.

Then again, I'm not selling mine.

I just saw my '79 that I sold on the road the other morning. Did not look right with someone else driving it. It was a one owner European delivery etc....
