Question Hi, I'm new here and to diesels

First, thanks for this forum! I've been lurking for a while and have picked up quite a bit. I recently purchased a '85 300SD and love the car.

I replaced all the glowplugs myself with the new style relay kit. Works great!

I have a question about the heater. The air comes out warm, but does not blow on the feet no matter what position the switches are in.

The previous owner said the compressor doesn't come on so he always left it on economy. The A/C is not an issue until summer here in Spokane, WA.

Also, anyone know where I can get biodiesel in Spokane?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! One thing, though you list what car you have, you may wish to put all that info in your signature (user CP). Get used to looking for vacuum gremlins in that era of car. I would assume that the heat problem you have falls into this catagory. If you use the search option, I'm sure you will find a wealth of specifics in the problem you are having. Good Luck!

Just the other night I pulled the interior kick panels off and inspected and replaced the vacuum hose connections to the vacuum actuators and lubed up the pivot points...just the ones I could see! I did not pull the whole dash out. But the central vents are blowing now and everything "seems" to be working fine. Great time to replace the dead "foam hose" to the air sensor too.

BTW, both connections are just small pieces of vacuum hose and both looked good...however after pulling one off and using my factory installed vacuum testing device (I blew into it & pluged the other end with my finger) it had a crack I didn't see at first...point being, you can't tell by just looking!

IMHO, anytime you see one of these old vacuum connections just replace it...real cheap easy fix. All this vacuum stuff is hooked togather and the tighter you make the system, the better the rest of the system works. Example, my door locks have always worked, but now they work much faster and my tranny shifts better. Vacuum leaks suck (pun intended).

I used this map to locate a biodiesel dealer in my neighborhood.
