Is this what the old school G-Wagons look like. What kind of engine is in these things?

It's real.

Would love one. Discussion here a week or so on this particular item that it was actually Ebayed from South of the border somewhere recently, with the proverbial caveat to beware...

As little as I drive the E300DT, I would love to have the 4 door version of this, auto (for the Bride approval) and the extra jump seats in the rear and hardtop only.

I was at the Benz dealer today for parts.... I was drooling over a 2006 G-wagen 4 door gasser witha price of $106,600.

The did say the M- series suv will be out in diesel this fall and that the whole c- series and e series diesel will be available later this year and a 4 wd diesel kompressor.

Yeehaw... now 20 years from now I'll buy a used M series:)

That is one sweet ride, been for sale for at least a couple of months that I know of. I like to browse the cl of other countries and imagine what if...

Somebody was pulling you leg, big time. "4 wd diesel kompressor"? they don't even make anything like that in europe.

Ugh, why'd they'd call it a Jeep? I guess I wouldn't understand, Jeep thing.

That's the first G-Wagen I've seen with a standup MB hood star. I concur with the others, it's real.

You've obviously never needed to use a real four wheel drive vehicle. Stick to the pavement son.

In many parts of the world, SUV type vehicles are called jeeps.

In our own part of the world, the first thing to be called a "Jeep" was a Willys vehicle. The word "Jeep" comes from GP for General Purpose. Willys adopted the Jeep moniker once everybody was already calling them Jeeps.

Actually, the first thing to be called a jeep was a Ford prototype (about 350 built supposedly). Ford lost the contract to Willy's, which was an improved design. Never officially called a "jeep", it was labelled as "truck, 1/2 ton". Jeep does come from GP, but it's not General Purpose. "G" for Government, and "P" for 80 in. wheelbase.

Yes they are real. They are pretty cool units but way overpriced. Man they want blood money for them.

diametricalbenz 02-26-2006 12:54 AM

That ad has been running for months. I think if they actually imported the car into the US it would sell a LOT faster.

There's one hardtop 2 door Gwagen nearby which may have been sold by now at $19,500 with a NA 617 motor and 4 speed manual. Very nice overall but not worth that much in my opinion.
