I know the pictures are weak.. but it was cold.. and I wanted to get out on the road.
If it's still a "turtle" tomorrow.. there will be a whole lot of COLORFUL adjectives in front of the turtle... JP |

Wow!!! Thanks for the pictures. Looks nice. I think, heck, I know you got your monies worth.
Still looking for the catch, like " No Title ". Well, get back to doing your research and find a heated shop somewhere. Congratulations.

Nope
No catch. I've got the title. Like I said.. it was a special deal from a friend. His only stipulation was that I keep him up to speed on the WVO conversion.
I plan on doing a blog with pictures starting with the tune up. Funny you talk about the heated garage. I was going to go to my brother's shop.. which has a lift. But it's a cramped space.. and no fun to work at. I decided I had plenty to do with it on the ground. Off to my dad's where I can crank the heat! I'm going to brave the elements and do a diesel purge, and both filters before I go anywhere with it. Keep your fingers crossed for me. JP |

Miracle
Miracle in a can... that diesel purge stuff.
I set it up just as darren at dieselgiant(dot)com says. I replaced a few of the hoses while i was hooking it up. Fired it up.. and up the road I went. I got a good amount of smoke the first 200 yards.. then I literally heard a "POP" and it took off like a shot! I'm guessing I had a cylinder that was doing next to nothing. I managed a 0-60 in about (timed one potatoe two potatoe) 12 seconds. The shift seem to come really late if I have it to the floor (like 4500 RPMs) but it whistles right along now. Banjo bolt was a little gummed up. I didn't get it onto the lift yet for oil and tranny service. I'm pretty happy though. Need a new stereo though.. Unless.... those have a internal fuse? JP |

If i could do it again, I would siphon out fuel, have a look at take screen out, clean it and if fuel looks good , put it back in. Better than wasting day on side of road.

Well.. it's getting a little more expensive.
Exhaust is SHOT from the manifold back. At the middle muffler (where it Y's) to the two chambers.. there is a hole. Then a HUGE hole just before rear muffler. Going to see my favorite muffler man tomorrow. Also one lower ball joint gonzo. JP |

regular old pipe... nothing fancy
Id run it strait pipe, i doubt it would be very loud... If you got finicky you could run down to the local farm and barn, and get a tractor muffeler for it. Good luck ~Nate

Looks like your exhaust is hanging low
If I were you, I would replace every exhaust hanger under the car. They are cheap. I had to replace my flex pipe becasue two of my hangars broke and made my flex pipe split.
Your tail pipe looks too low to me. And use the correct MB hangars, not an aftermarket part. They are not the correct size at all. Believe me, I know. Someone had tried them on my car before I replaced them all.

Great
This site is great. Just spent 20 minutes researching what others have done. Never mind the 350 dollar resonator.
Looks like I'm just gonna chop out the whole thing from the downpipe back. I'll have the muffler shop bend up a new pipe all the way back and add a cheapy muffler. Shouldnt be more than a couple hundred bucks. JP |

same car
i own this same car... first do not kick the accelerator,
dont punch it... always be easy on the accelerator... thats how i developed transmission problems... below the gas pedal is a kick down switch... punching it will break that and it will also break the vac control on top of the fuel dist... so be gentle on the gas pedal.... always... remember its an old car... Next, there is probably nothing wrong with the radio... it has a removeable face... and it gets loose.... so pop the face off and then put it back on and the radio will probably work.... |
