Unhappy HELP-Rusty 98 E300D

I have a 98 with very serious rust problems. Has anyone every gotten any "out of warrenty" work done by Mercedes for the rust problems that all the 98's seem to have.

Not that I know of.

What is the issue, body or suspension/steering?

Seems like I have seen some MB offset to repairs, not certain though. Seems if you have done thousands of dollars in their service, they might give some.

Also what is the problem? I am watching mine closely. Do have a spot on top of a rear door at the moment back under the rubber gasket. Will take care of that soon. Probably from using pressure car wash. May just go back to the bucket, but that is tough in the winter.

Spring Perch? Rear trunk emblem/key area? Front end?

I've decided not to drive mine in the snow or rain.

Mine was from Kentucky and I'm in Missouri. You have a lot more Winter and Salt than I.

Please be specific, so we can either help more and watch ours closer.

Sorry about not listing the cause of rust.
I have been thru the falling off rusty spring perch thing. Mercedes repaired it out of warrenty with no hasle.
I had some warrenty paint work down-- it was rust under the paint.
Now the problem is several rust spots all around the car, fenders, edge of door, lower trim, etc with the usual rust by the trunk key hole. I bought this car with 30k on it and spent a lot of time cleaning and making sure of washing out wheel wells and fenders to try and make sure their wasn't any salt build up. You can look at any other hi-end car and you never see this kind of rust problem in this year of car. It should be something Mercedes fixes. They had a problem with their paint application, in these years, and they will not except responsibility.

Are you the original owner? if so they sometimes work more cooperatively on helping out with repairs. If not, can you be sure all the paint is original? Maybe some sloppy past body work was done or maybe the car took a dunk in salt water?

I have a '98 without a speck of rust and I must say I have not heard too many complaints from other W210 owners with your level of rust problems...

Seems like all the places you mentioned I have heard before, somewhere. I have more rock chips etc. in my paint than my brothers '92 350SDL with 250,000+ on it or his old '82 300CD.

I'll go ahead and say it's poor paint, environmentally friendly though.

I'm the second owner. The car came out of Canada. I'm sure it was never painted before. I mentioned that I had some warrenty work done. It was some paint blisters on the hood and door. I have heard about this paint problem before, maybe on the Canadian Mercedes site. I read something to the effect that when the factory was dipping cars for rust protection they were dipping something like 30 bodies to a batch, instead of the recomended 20 bodies, before they changed the soulution and the cars that were on the end of the dipping cycle didn't get enough rust protection.
