Which rear brake pads squeal the least?

I just redid all four rotors and the parking brakes and my front brake calipers. I put on new hoses on all four and new ATE rotors and Pads.

The rear ATE pads are squealing horribly on the rear. Backing up slowly they are awful and it is embarassing. Stopping quickly when going fast they squeal like a "stuck pig."

Which pads cause the least squeal???

are you sure the lines are completely bled? I don't think it's very common to have noises like that from the rear brakes.

I think the OE compounds work best. Ate is is an OE supplier for brake components, but is not an OE supplier for pads.

Brake lines

Yes, as far as I know the lines were completely bled. I let the mechanic do the work that week because I was so busy at my job. We used new ATE brake fluid that I bought and all ATE components.

I have heard the pads from the dealer give fewer squealing problems. I did not replace the rear calipers.

I used the pagid organic pads on the rear of both our cars, and they squeal initally for a while, mainly in reverse slowly as you described, but after a few hard brakings/they get worn in a bit, it goes away. Mine are 98% of the time silent now. The organic ones don't let off pesty black dust like the oem's either, so it keeps the rims looking nicer.....

Did you put the anti-squeal paste on them?

that's what happens when you let machanics do the work for you!

They probably didn't clean the calipers with brake cleaner of use anti-squeal paste.
When all you do is take the old pads out and put put new pads in that's what happens.

Nope, I didn't want to pay for it.... I did clean everything off super well with brake cleaner though.

I've heard Textars work great for silent braking.

The best stuff I ever used to stop ALL squeel is a product made by bg. Its a liquid that goes directly on the pad surface and is absorbed in. Stops squeeling cold. I had my '79 that was embarassing to drive untill I used this stuff.

don't know

Well,

I don't know if he used the anti squeal paste. I'm sure he cleaned everything. He is a good mechanic.

I will get some Textar's and some paste and brake cleaner and re-do the rear pads. I had heard the Textar's were good. I had the organic ones and they were ok, but also squealed in reverse back up.

My stealership told me about the spray on stuff, diesel giant, but you have to put it on the pad when it is brand new before installing or it will not work.

One yahoo told me to soak them in WD 40 and re install. It may have been the guy at the dealer parts counter. He said the spray stuff is about the same as WD 40 anyway.

Forget the paste. It does nothing if the pad surface to rotor contact area is squeeling.

I have Textar pabs and ATE discs on the rear of the SDL. I even used offical MB brake paste on the back of the pads. And they still squeal when I first hit the brakes. I don't think they make noise backing up though. I don't remember I havn't driven the thing since Oct.

Since the rear discs seem to be warped a bit, thanks ATE. I was looking at cross drilled for the rear but now I think I will just head up to the dealer and get a set of discs. I may pick up some pads as well because I want silence this ain't a race car!

The kicker is OE discs and pads are probably cheaper then the aftermarket stuff online.
