isnt it true that sd has vented rotors and d has solid...vented are better and the sd should have bigger rotors to.

i am not sure

exact years that it will work but the vented rotors are the same diameter and are a bolt on along with the calipers. they use the same pads and are more fade and warp resistant. i wouldn't think a 240 would need them unless you do a lot of mountain driving.

a 123 wagon though could really use them. on my 82 wagon i couldnt keep rotors on the front. i think it was the extra weight and the lack of engine braking on the automatic tranny.

a 240 stick however is very easy on brakes...just let off the gas and it will do a lot of slowing down without touching them.

My W123s have more than enough stopping power as is. Is there a reason you want to upgrade the brakes?

I have the parts, so they are free. If there is a brake upgrade be it minor or major then, why not? I can do the work my self so free labor and better front brakes for an afternoons time...correct???? I hope

yeah

your logic is sound i think. again i cant guarantee which years will work but my best estimate is that the 83 sd brakes will work.

my 123 euro 280 has them on it from the factory. they work very well. no more power but should be excellent for fade and not warping.

have you searched trhis - try the performance spot also - look for w123 brake upgrade...

there are a few of us that talk about it...i want to do it when my drilled rotors go, as for now they are great....

we share the same spindle as the w126, so it should go - if you have the parts, why not start turning some wrenches?

You must have allot of extra time, Why would you want to mess with a good system? Like was already mentioned, "240Ds already have some pretty strong brakes " (which is an understatment )

Most of a cars stoping power is the tires. not the brakes. A marginal brake systems and great tires will stop in less distance than a good brake system and crappy tires. Friction against the road is where your investment needs to be.

The basic premise of hot rodding. Agree with you DG, as long as the brakes will lock up all four at any speed, then you need to look at what meets the road.

hey

i dont understand you guys.

first he has the parts.

second he says he drives a lot in the mountains.

third stickier tires only help your stopping distance if you are locking them up for a balls out max stop. (this is not strictly true but for all practical purposes it is)

so give him a break!

it is a cheap modification that will give him better fade resistance and the satisfaction of knowing he improved his car.
