Sounds cool, I am a current loyal Rotella-T Dino user.... at 2,500 mile intervals, I've become really paranoid....oh well.

Ive been hating convetional (delo 400) oil just to much of a hassle with more oil change intervals. Next oil change (which is right around the corner) im putting in Elf 5w40, designed for my moms passat TDI but i think it would work just as good in an older merc diesel.

I've used Delo for the last six years in my diesels - excellent oil.

advanced oil

Interesting link, even from the manufacturer. But, improved oils in all their various qualities is a great thing. I do think new oils that resist thermal breakdown and so call for a longer time/distance between changes is a bit problematic. One of our member's who says "change oil hot...change oil often" is the edict to follow, no matter how great the soot suspension or resistance to thermal breakdown.

That logic may not entirely hold up. Compare the soot load a TDI puts on an oil with the soot load one of our older Mercedes puts on an oil. It is a huge difference. I see this type of difference with my duramax. I can put 10,000 miles on it and the oil will be just slightly darker than it was when I put it in. I can't go 10 feet with the Mercedes before the oil is dark as coal. Granted some of this is from residual oil already in the engine, but the difference is still pretty stark.
