Knocking from Cylinder #2: Why?
1990 300D 2.5 turbo with about 100K miles on it. My buddy just had a shop fix #2 injector, you could feel the air leak from right about it, also the plastic thing around the bottom of it had more or less melted off. They put a washer or something in the top part of the injector which fixed the leak, but now the noise. Not sure what it is but it sounds like a loud knock, like a lifter not working. The sound is definately from #2 cylinder, it was easy to isolate with a stethescope as the other cylinders were very quiet.
What is going on here as far as the noise? |

Just to clear things up for future answers, are you saying you had the #2 injector repaired for an air leak only and had no nailing(knock) problem previous to this repair?

Loosen the #2 injector line and see if the noise goes away.

That will prove the "rod knock" is not actually injector nailing which can sound somewhat simmular. If its still knocking with the injector loosened you are in for some engine work.
