engine noise

Does any one have any experience with their engine making a noise that reminds me of a sticky lifter , or small exhaust leak on the manifold... In that it is a ticking kind of sound, most notable when running a steady 1800-2000 RPM. Weard thing is it comes and goes in a cycle, although it stays longer than, when it fades away and comes back a few seconds later.

It is not real loud, as the general public may never notice, but it makes me nervous, that I could be messing something up. I have been trying to equate it to valve noise, but I just adjusted the valves 6K miles ago.

Jason

Could be what is called Injector Nailing. Often sounds like a stuck lifter. Usually a good diesel purge will fix it or make it much better. My '79 was so bad I could not drive it until if was warmed up. I ended up doing multiple purges over 6 months and it was quite as a kitten when I sold it.

That is a good idea, I will give it a shot. Sorry It has been such a long time to respond, I no longer have reliable computer access, so I dont get to keep up on the happenings!

If your talking about the SDL in your sig, yeah thats a normal 603 thing.

If its the other car, it could be an injector.

The SDL is parked for the winter, but it does have a Tick Tick Tick at an idle, will try some sythetic in it next time I put it on the road,

The 300 TD was the one that I was asking about, as the noise comes and goes in a cycle. will try some injector cleaner....

My SDL is parked as well, I just ordered 12 new lifters to resolve that ticking. Delvac 1 helped a lot, but it had a nasty tick if I let it idle for a bit.

Try some injector cleaner though, I bet that clears up the TD.

noises

My SDL makes all kinds of noises at an idle but as soon as I step on it she just wants to go and sounds just fine ~I think it doesnt like sitting still!
The 25oo RPM boost still gives me a tickle!
