652K mercedes took a look at it

My friend is in the market for a diesel car for his first car. So i said why dont we take a look at the 652K just for the hell of it. When we arrived The car was clean! and the LEATHER interior was perfect. it technically has 652K in total but the engine was swapped at around 400K and he added 200+K ontop of that equaling 652K. He had all the service records and a new tranny with a 10 year full coverage warranty. It dripped a tiny bit of oil and ran great! accelerated quickly! all the electronics worked except the sunroof. And one window was off its track other then that the car was spotless. And had ALL of the service records.

My friend wanted it badly but of course his naive father said ohh well the oil is black! and i told him yeah all oil gets like that, and then he complained about the amount of smoke that came out the back when he floored it up a hill. And again i told him thats because it was a diesel.

and he wants to take it to AAA for them to smog it but w/e this is gonna be fun to watch his dad complain more about the car. I hope AAA knows that diesels dont get smogged in cali.

Whew that is a boat load of miles. Funny how a car can still be real nice even though the miles are high.

What are they asking for it? Was the engine replaced with a new one or a rebuilt one? Do big ticket items like the AC and cruise control work?

If it is in good shape I'd offer $1,500 for it.

It may be a good idea to get it up on a lift and just check things out.

However to reach that mileage the PO must have taken very good care of it and like the car a lot.

The guy said he replaced it with a new crate engine and has receipts to prove it. He wanted to reach 1 million miles but he needs to pay for bla bla bla. The a/c doesnt work he said he relpaced the compressor 3 times already and that was his latest one, it was a rebuilt compressor. He said he always used mobil 1 truck/suv since the engine was new. This guy looked like he really took care of the car. And must have put much money into it.

They are asking $1200 obo

I wonder what he used before Mobil 1 Truck/SUV was available? I believe it was only introduced a few years ago, Delvac 1 would be a good answer. So would Amsoil Heavy-Duty Diesel and Marine or better, so would RedLine synthetic Diesel oil, ... just curious.

I so badly want to buy it and sell the one i have now. Its the color i wanted with a perfect interior and the 8 hole wheels with the correct offset!

But my friend wants it bad so i wouldnt do that to him, hopefully AAA checks it out ok so he can get the car, i made him a deal if he gets the car ill trade him my woofers with box and amp for his 8 hole wheels and ill lend him the old blunt wheels meanwhile while he gets upgraded wheels.

And then ill re-paint the wheels on my car now and sell them. maybe someone with a W140 will want them.

AAA what do they know about W126's? Maybe if he was looking a 2000 Civic AAA could do a PPI.

Exactly what i was saying, there gonna tell my friends dad "im stumped i cant find the sparkplugs"

The owner was trying to convince my friends dad not to take it to AAA because they dont know much about diesels. But he is naive so you cant really do anything.

Its funny he was asking me questions about my mercedes and he was talking about mainanence and he didnt even know that diesels dont use sparkplugs! So i had to try to explain it to him but he is paranoid about buying a used car ever since the used van they bought was a lemon. Ever since he only wanted new cars and they have all been toyotas.

Well his dad is just trying to protect him from throwing $1,200 down the drain. I can understand how to someone who knows nothing about cars a 20+ year old MB with 600k miles can be intimidating.

Only hard core guys like us would buy such a car.
