Oh dear....

You know the car is available in Canada right? Thus it is CDN DOLLARS being used.

#1 - Smarts base price is 16 700
#2 - Smarts are available in Canada with the diesel engine only.
#3- I can get a used smart for 15k.
#4- Jetta costs 26 750.
#5- Smart easily gets 4.0L/100KM - far better than what a tdi can get (I would know, I own 2)
www.100mpg.ca - 100 mpg in a smart.

Still doubt me? Check out:
www.smart.com

Read up before you post next time.

1. well arent you just the smartest person alive. most of the people on this forum live in america, or at least talk in US Dollar terms. dont make me look like an idiot when you dont mention that you are talking about canadian dollars. ohh dear...

2. my US prices for the cars is correct, no one cares for the queens pennies.

3. i know the smart is a diesel, which is rated at 70mpg and the gasser is 60mpg. now the rated mpg is not its maxium attainable, but your 100mpg.ca site still reads that on its journey it averaged 78mpg. yes it did get over 100 on its highway only stretches.

4. you in canada can get smarts. the world freakin knows this. but you CAN NOT buy one and register it in the usa. there are lots of people that would drive to canada just to get one, but they are not US streetlegal unless you get them from Zaps, which is having teething problems.

5. the jetta costs $21,605 US.

6. i have lived in germany for 12 years, and have driven several smarts on several occations. i consider my self educated enough on the topic.

get over the canadian thing, no one cares...

16,700.00 CAD
Canada Dollars = 14,735.15 USD
United States Dollars
1 CAD = 0.882344 USD 1 USD = 1.13334 CAD

two things here.

1. when did any dealer, let alone an mb dealer order base line cars only?

2. remember the vw polo with the suzuki in it at 155mph?

smart car on city streets maybe. on the hwy as a long distance commuter? no not for me. same decision for a yugo or that small ford a couple years back. aveo? i don't think so!

I call the Smart car a rolling speed bump.

I'd rather drive a TDI than one of those (at close to the same price), and I have seen dozens up close in person.

1. Maybe you were too arrogant and STUPID to even consider that it is logical to compare the car in Canadian dollars because of the fact that both are available in Canada. Did you consider this before you made your idiotic post? Why didn't I convert it to USD? Because cars in USA are generally cheaper than in Canada.
2. Very egocentric. Are you 10 years old?
3. What does the jetta get? Even close to 70mpg? NO. What does the jetta get on highway? Oh yeah 60 MAX (even that is rare). Smart got a full 40mpg above that.

"dont make me look like an idiot" - I don't even have to try, you do it by yourself.

Keep it up genius! You must be doing well in life.

I'd rather than drive a TDI than a carton of eggs, too. Egg cartons have bad breaks, but, psssst, if you are paying the nearly the same price, you are getting a bad deal on the eggs.

I see the Smart car in Italy every year....it really is tiny lengthwise. In a photo is one thing but in person it really does seem dangerously small. I've seen the two seater, the four seater and the sporty ragtop model ( forget what it is really called) which is a lot different and is sort of cool....wish I had a photo of that one. The Four seater is geo Metro sized. subract several feet for the two seater.

Price is twice what I think is reasonible for that car.

i dont think they will ever sell them over here with massive trucks and suv's on the road and soccer moms behind the wheel who dont know how to drive them

They are more practical out of the country since they are smart enough not to waste their cash on these big suv's and truck's they dont need

Since the European Union is almost as large economically as the U.S. is, and since the U.S. dollar is losing value as the Euro is gaining, perhaps you should exchange your U.S. dollars for Euros, so you can buy your next Mercedes at a substantial discount.

Good one! Very relevant to what I said.

Got reading comprehension?
"cheap college road trips" - And you are in COLLEGE? Stop wasting your time, you are not going to get anywhere with your lack of logic and reading comprehension skills. Why don't you come to Canada? We need people like you for manual labour.

Get a brain.....
