Thumbs up On the road finally!

With many thanks to y'all for the great info and tips, my '82 300D with the 4-speed is on the road.

We've mostly been doing maintenance after stripping/coating the fuel tank, with all new WIX filters and a Mobil-1 oil change. Yesterday our Wal-Mart tire order came in and now she has four new BFG Traction T/A tires with full-boat warranties, all for under $250 out the door. They ride great and are super quiet! Also adjusted the rack damper to smooth out the idle shake, but could quite see what color it was. I'll probably replace it anyway as it was screwed pretty much all the way in.

So now we undertake cleaning out the trunk and and addressing some rust issues in there, plus refurbishing the interior and sorting out the climate control. The rear winshield seal needs some attention too. Can anyone tell me if there's a seal that's just plain rubber? Like the Cal-style Bugs use. The trim on the rear seal just looks like all kinds of trouble.

In any case, wanted to share another oil-burner on the road!

Thanks again!

i am not aware

of any seals that dont take the aluminum thing.

if you clean it very well and caulk with black silicone you should be in good shape. i usually caulk just between the glass and rubber. scrape it out with a plastic picnic knife ground to form a hook, then use a spray cleaner with a tube to direct it, wipe it with a clean rag, make sure it is dry then caulk. i sometimes cut about 1/8" off the edge of the rubber to form a v for the caulk to grab.
