HELP! How do u get 420 starter off!
 

I know this is the diesel forum but you guys are so helpful. How do u get the top bolt of the 420 starter off? There is no room the exhaust is in the way and I cant see how to get that off anyway. IS there a trick? Thanks

It's really packed over there, I have to R&R mine for a new unit here sometime also. :(

I haven't gotten to that point yet but I'd look to see if it's attached to a bracket or something of that nature. Maybe an offset box wrench would work or you'll have to have the vehicle on a lift. I'm going to stare at mine for a while before I attempt to remove it. Same goes for the SD, it's probably $70 well spent to have a shop swap them on a lift.

I searched the forum and found that a special tool might be needed... Does anyone know for sure? Is it also needed on the diesels? ANyone know what the tool is called? Thanks
