Help ID part so I can get one frome Fred

I need help getting the correct name for a part so Fred can order it he did not get the right one from my description. The car is a 1972 220D US market. If you remove a fuel injector then at the bottom of the pre-chamber sits the heat shield if you remove the heat shield it looks just like a hole into the pre-chamber but it is not there is an insert with a small collar in there you would not know it because the carbon holds it in tight. However, after the head shop cleans and rebuilds the head this part will come out easily. Late one-night gremlins cranked over my engine with 2 injectors removed blowing this part into outer space where the pre-chamber gremlins live. Does any one have a clue what this part is called so I can order the right one they neglected to mention it in my manuals

Hey Mattdave, your best bet would be to phone the local Mercedes dealer parts dept. and describe it. Ask for the name and part number "so you can go there and buy it later".

DP

screw collar for prechamber??
prechamber??

seal ring for prechamber??

There is no such part shown in the EPC. You sure it isn't part of the pre-chamber?

No, he mentioned the heat shields -- he's talking about something else.

Sorry, not too clear. I'll work on my technique with the size limit here on pictures, but I have the original. The EPC only shows the screw collar above the PC as far as I can tell?

It`s an integral part of the PC,I don`tthink you could order it...I have a cracked PC and tried to pry it out by a screwdriver last night with no success...

mattdave, sometimes folks forget and install a heat shield over an old heat shield - but I'm sure you'd recognize it.

My diagrams show (from the head): head, washer, pre-chamber, screw-in pre-chamber collar, heat shield, then the rest of the injector stuff.

Have you tried sending a sketch to Phil? I'm sure you know what a pain it is crossing from the old micro-fiche to the computer. If Phil can't figure it out then maybe a Bosch injector shop may have the old manuals.

But I still think it's a second heat shield.

Ok I snuck out under the rain and under the ever-watching code enforcement officers eyes and got the little bugger. Here is a picture of the part next to a current REV heat shield. Refresher the car a 1972 220D the head was just rebuilt unfortunately I cranked the engine with 2 injectors out and lost 2 of the parts pictured so I am trying to figure out if there just some old style heat shield or what do you call them so I can order replacements. http://www.bluehydrogendesign.com/DSC04456.JPG
http://www.bluehydrogendesign.com/DSC04449.JPG

Picture 2 is of the car it is for that I paid one dollar for I just could not resist putting up 1 picture of it more toi come in a new thread
Thanks

The heat shield, aka"seal ring ".part number A6170170360 is used from Ponton diesel models to w123`s diesels, available at
your Bosch,Elring,Reinz dealer
http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=115100&M=615%2E912&GA=722%2E107206&GM=716%2E002&CT=M&cat=005&SID=07&SGR=001&SGN=01
Number 168 on the third graphic.
The insert with the collar in your pics is not listed in the parts catalogue,it`s a part of the prechamber.I wouldn`t be worried about it,as it`s very easy to make a new one in a decent machine shop So go ahead...

Yup, looks like you'll need to slap some cash for a couple of prechambers...
