50 mpg is not that good... try 157 mpg

I know for our cars given weight and size they get decent mileage especially compared to gas models... Here is a car that some may not be familiar with that you guys should check out... 157 mpg...

I'm astounded that they can get the total weight down to 1000 lb.

It's got to be a glorified go-cart.

Sure does reinforce the concept of weight reduction!

Let's see 1000 lb, @ 30 mph impact, with a stationary object, the dash moves 6 inches. Can we say scary! I believe I would feel safer in a go-kart.

I'll Take it

Hey it may not be an MB but I would drive one. Now....if that thing could pass U.S. Safety Standards I doubt it. But for 157 a Gal I think it might be worth the risk.

Will we ever see one? I like the new 1 cylinder diesel VW that gets in the 300mpg range. But chances are the US will never have one. But I will buy one if they ever show up.

It is really cool that the auto makers are atleast trying and are able to make very fuel efficient vehicles.

Somewhere I read an article on a "car" that could go 1.5 miles on 2 AA batteries. It really wasn't the "car" that was the big leap forward, it was an improvement in battery technology. In fact, the "car" was made to demonstrate this. Note that the "car" was made from carbon fiber, magnesium, balsa wood, and unobtainium.

that VW is pretty amazing. They don't say anything about side impact though. I guess just get yourself in that situation?

Thats a cool looking car. You could have yourself a sportscar to complement your MB tank! The fuel mileage is unbelievable.

They've had many good cars that get great milage. The PROBLEM is not the car companies not wanting to make efficient cars, it's the OIL companies not allowing the car companies to release the cars that get 80 MPG and actually fit more than one person.
The oil companies own big hunks of stock of the car companies. If the oil companies don't like what the car companies are making (ie 80MPG cars back in the 80s) then all they have to do is threaten to sell their stock. The car companies would go bankrupt overnight.
The car companies WANT to make cars that get the good milage. But what would Exxon Mobil do it a car got 80 MPG? Only make $1B in profit instead of $36B.
Poor Rich Executives. . .

Thank you for the VW update. That thing is gorgeous.
That two up seating reminds me of motorcycle riding and
that appeals to me greatly.

We don't have much side impact protection on the bikes either .....

I will be getting a Honda Insight this year, but that VW would be awesome.
