1975 240D engine swap!
Hello! I've been cruisin' around this forum for a while now, but haven't posted much. Here is a monster question I've been saving up for... I am researching to buy a used low mileage engine from several online sources, such as AAAJapanmotors.com, qualityautoparts.com, and asapmotors.com. They all claim limited warranties, hot run tested, and leak tested, and of course low mileage, rangeing from 75K-90K. They all quote around $1000 dollars (including shipping) and I thought this was a good deal ....perhaps a little too good... Has anyone had experiences with any of these companies, and also would like to give me advice on particular questions dealing with used engines, to be poised to these companies before a decision? It is always possible for a salvage outfit to get one of those engines with 75-90k miles of course. It is also possible for me to win the lotto as well.
 In fact if you can source out a salvage outfit with a name like honest johns at least you can then get a guarantee of being stung. Back then the odometer repeated after every 100k. A far better choice would be for you to find a car with a bad body or other major issue for a couple of hundred dollars with a good engine and go from there. They are around. Also remember if the much later 240d engine will interchange it has some benifits like more power, parellel glow plugs instead of series plugs and probably a couple of other things. A lot of availability issues are going to be determined by where you live in the country.

yeah
i agree.
i would look for a car with sound engine and other issues, such as interior tranny rust or body damage. if you buy a running car you can tell so much more about the engine. and you will get a lot of spare parts too. tom w
