Moment of silence for another diesel killed by careless people.
I am going to use my parking brake on ANY grades now, even slight ones! Its a good thing I redid mine last fall, now they'll hold on anything, even a 90 degree grade!

I don't really understand. It takes about three times to make it habit to always put the parking brake on.....

Ahhh ...what kind of hill would have produced that kind of damage. Their drivway is flat. LOL That car would have to have been going really fast and at an angle to get that much damage.

i was rear ended *on the interstate* when my car ran out of fuel. my bumper is cockeyed, only cockeyed. with a 20-30mph impact, id guess.
that car was *slammed* into, it most certainly did not rolled back into another car. anyone can tell that rear corner of the mercedes would have punched into the caravans plastic grille. it's a nice parts car...i guess; too bad i need the back bumper mostly

That thing was hit by a cement truck!
No mention on the condition of the interior. If that rebuild is as fresh as that hit is light, it's total junk. |

Looks to me like the hit was over the top of the bumper, so the bumper didn't absorb much of the impact - that left the trunk crumple zone to absorb all the energy. The driveway looks like it could be pretty steep just out of the picture range. The amazing thing is the long straight run down to the neighbor's minivan. So I guess I tend to believe the story.

You know, you can't trust the stated condition of the engine due to the unquestionable lie about how the car was damaged. That van would be destroyed in a collision that caused that kind of damage to a 300D.
Why wasn't the truth good enough for a $500 parts car?

I totally agree. NFW that damage was caused by rolling down a driveway into another vehicle. One of those vehicles was doing over 25 mph. |

What an ideal. Put a small dent in the car to distract potential purchasers from the interior condition or whatever. I disagree about questioning the cause to some extent. Could the dent not of been have been caused if the car rolled backwards down one of those hills you see the cable cars run on? Of course my vulture instinct bubbled to the surface as well wondering if he had the paperword for the recent engine rebuild. Why did i just not feel sorry about his loss of the car and leave it at that? Must ask my shrink but thats a problem in itself as everytime I see him he wants some of my parts for his mercedes.

That damage is probably genuine.
At first, I thought that this was faked too because it's difficult, if not impossible to determine grades in a photograph. But, what to they have to gain by faking that collision?
Look at the first picture and you can see the driveway in the background...it looks as if it goes upward out if the frame. I can imagine that it is pretty steep and it is quite possible that car may have been 20+ mph when it tagged the van. Basically, all the impact energy was concentrated on the left third of the rear of the car and the hidden right front corner of the van. Imagine what would happen if you took a 300D and backed it into a minivan at 20+mph, carefully positioning it so that the bumpers didn't meet up and the impact area was confined to the sheetmetal of the rear valence, trunklid and fender. I'd bet it would look quite similar. They're daggone lucky that van was in the drive. Otherwise, that 123 would have become yard art...in the back yard!!!
