2.5mm or 3.5mm shim in idler arm?? My repair kit did not have one
At the MB dealer when I had my alignment done last week, he said the idler arm bolt and dust cap was on upside down. He also said it should have a 2.5mm or 3.5mm shim (washer) to set the height of the arm. I checked the factory manual and it does show a breakdown with the shim.
None of the repair kits like the one I ordered come with a shim. What gives? Mine came with the bushings, dust cap, thin washer and nut. The thin washer goes on the bottom with the nut. the dust cap on top and the shim sits on top of the dust cap between cap and the arm. Any ideas? I am borrowing a rack this morning to flip it around correctly. Thanks. Mine is a 1982 300sd. Should it even have a shim and which one?

Hey Willrev, where are you in Nashville? I'm in Raleigh on the edge of Knightdale... but I'm in a 300D -
I just went through the frontend on my 123 car - probably similar setup to yours - did your old parts on the car have the thick (2.5-3.5mm) washer? Kit I got came with new washers, thick & thin - Bryan in Raleigh |

Yes
Yep,
I go to Raleigh all the time. Nope, my kit came with absolutely no spacers. It came with the washer for the bottom nut and the top dust cap but no spacers. I did not get mine at the dealer. The one at the dealer comes with the spacers but is $25 more. Have you got an extra spacer you did not use? Would love to have it!
