I was thinking of keeping the vehicle. I put a lot into it when the tree fell on it which did amazingly little exterior body damage. It fell thru the windshield thru the dashboard and thru the floor. Had to replace the floor panels, windshield, dash, windows, etc... but no body parts. I've decided I am purchasing another Benz and this one will move to backup. I also have a diesel truck down which will be easier to get running so I'll do that first. Then I'll take my time on the Benz. So my simple question is if oil is leaking into the vacuum pump then can pressure be leaking back into the engine from it? Bill |

I was just looking at the shop manual to see what the diagrams and photos of the vacuum pump look like. It looks like it may be a possibility but I've never heard of such a thing happening. For the pump to create vacuum, it needs to expell the air somehow and maybe the exhaust port, if it has one, is plugged then it could be pumping air into the crankcase. I'm only guessing here since I don't have any extensive experience with the vacuum pump. I'm applying some common sense and what Brandon has suggested to try to figure out your problem. Hopefully instead of condemming the engine, maybe all you need to do is change the vacuum pump. I'm wodering if there is some way to immobilize the vacuum pump to test to see if it is the culprit.

Disconnect the line at the vac pump...start the car..and plug the suction port with your finger.
See what the blowby looks like... Keep in mind that my 300SD has TONS of blowby (nearly cap removing at times) yet starts and drives fine |
