Jim, I tried cracking the lines about a half turn. About half fuel half air bubbles seeped out. I cranked about 30 seconds and nothing. On a whim, I took off the new canister filter and replaced with the old, priming it of course. This time when I primed the lines with the pump it felt like it was actually pumping fuel. I then cranked the engine and it fired slightly before it went back to just cranking. The battery then wore out again. It's now sitting with the charger for an hour or so before I try it again. I'm thinking about craking all the lines about one and a half turns before I try it again. When they were only craked about a half turn, I had my dad watching. He said that no fuel was leaking from the injectors! What else is there to do!

That you are getting air is a sign that air lock is probably the issue. Try 3/4 to one turn before you get too carried away. This is more art than science; you need enough opening to let the air out, but not so much that the IP can't develop the pressure to operate the injectors. Worst you will do is squirt some fuel over the engine. Also helps to hold the throttle about the half way point (to the floor, until it starts, won't hurt).

What you are looking for is more than a seep but less than a fuel bath.

Well, I tried cracking the lines about 3/4 turn. After some cranking she fired, for a little while, then died. So I tried it with the lines tightened. She cranked for a while then ran for a little bit, then sputtered and died. The battery was wearing down so I decided to call it quits for an hour or so. I think this time I'll try it with about a 1/2 turn and see what happens. Boy, what I thought was going to be a simple 1 hour routine maintenance for the old girl, has turned into an all day affair! This is the third time I've changed the fuel filters, and I never had any problems like this before, and I don't think I did anything differently. Oh well, thanks for all the great advise!

Scott, Leave the lines open that 3/4 turn until she runs for a bit, you need to work the air out. If it stalls, quickly start it again. Don't close the lines until it is running. If it stalls, as it did, by the time you close the lines they will have half filled with air. Once it starts try to keep it running at about 2000 rpms for a few minutes to work the air out. Perhaps you can twist your Dad's arm to tighten the injectors while you operate the throttle.
Jim

Look at the bright side; you are within an inch of mastering the tecnique of bleeding the injector lines. The next time it happens you will be five minutes from having the car running.

victory!!!!!!!!![SIZE="2"]I had to tighten all the injectors except #1. After cranking for a little bit, I detected life within the beast, then sure enough she started! With fuel spraying all over the windshield, she could run on her own. After tightening the #1 she began to idle normally. Thanks for givin a stranger a helping hand, Jim& Don. If you were here I'd buy you a beer!

Congratulations
The way this works is that you one day help someone else. I have been helped many, many times over the years, by folks that I could never directly repay for their advise. Helping you is my payback to those many kind souls.
Your success, and what you have learned, is more than enough reward for me. Motor on lad, Jim
