Stuck Pedel

Hello everyone,
I searched around but could not find any past threads on a stuck gas pedel. The car has been sitting for about 3 months over the winter. I have gone out and started it sporadically over the past 3 months. The other day I was going to take a cruz around and I found that the gas pedel stuck down and wouldn't come back up. It was pretty scary. The engine reved up pretty high before I stuck my hand down and yanked the pedel back. Has anyone had any problems like this before? I would like to get this fixed as the warm weather is coming and I will be doing some work on the car so I can get another car on the road.
Specs:
1983 300sd turbo
w126

What I have done:
Wiggled around the arms on the engine to see if something got stuck.
Put some wd40 on every joint to loosen up stuff.

It still does it. Is there any opinions on what is wrong or areas that the pedel could meet some problems?

Thanks
DK

The linkage probably needs lubing.

Get someone to "mash the pedal and you check out the linkage under the hood. First check to see your carpet is'nt skrunched up under it. That happened to a friend, scared the wee outa him when the engine revved up that was on a 123 tho.

That reminds me....
My pedal broke. Was actually pushing on that metal bar for about a week.

I replaced it and the pedal did the same thing. I pulled it off the bottom mount just so I could drive it and totally forgot about it. .......until now that is.

Hey it was working great!

I really haven't been working on the car lately because of other things, but it still has the same problem. The engine opens way up and doesn't want to stop accelerating. The car shuts off fine and idles fine, but as soon as the pedel is pushed down, the pedel doesn't want to come back up. I have tried a ton of WD40 and lubes on the linkages. The car still does the huge acceleration without slowing down. I hope someone else has had this problem. Could someone diagnose my problem.

Thanks for everyone's help so far.

Try popping off all of the little ball joints in the linkage and shooting some grease in there, something a little bit thicker than WD-40.

What is the spring down below the floor? Where would it be?

I already sprayed every area with WD-40 and some bolt loosener. Everything is nice and oily.

Thanks everyone.

The spring reffered to is the return spring to pull the petal back up that of course pulls back the linkage at the same time. It may have broken or rusted off. Since you feel you have lubricated all the linkage your only other choice would be a binding that the spring cannot overcome. Find the spring or a part of it and replace it with one from a junk car if that is the problem. If the spring is there and seems to be working then separate your linkage and trace down what is binding it. No possible way to say in advance exactly where the problem is but if you follow these instructions you should find it. This is the method we use to repair many things. Trial and error is it's name. Sometimes it is a little harder than others but you will get to the bottom of it. The real secret is not to get frustrated when using this proceedure as then you stop thinking.

THANK YOU A TON!!! I have been messing around with all the linkages when it was the spring. I am so happy to get this fixed. The spring had broken off it's end and slipped off. Thanks again for everyone's help.
