Turbo performance intake kit

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCEDES-300SD-300D-TURBO-PERFORMANCE-INTAKE-KIT_W0QQitemZ8031309873QQcategoryZ38634QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I have a 82 300D. would that kit actually help the performance like it says? I know alot of you guys know these cars inside out so Id like to hear opinions before even considering it. I just came across it when browsing ebay while looking for other parts.

People have been selling them on ebay for a long time. My advise keep your money and use it in other places on your car. Its a waste of YOUR money.

Yeah good product. Take hot low-density air from around the engine and behind the radiator, suck it through an air-filter with unspecified filtration efficiency, and claim it improves power.

Save your money.

One of the guys that sells those on ebay is actually a forum member here! He got so pissed at me pointing out the flaws in his product and the blatent lies that he decided to join to throw in his 2 cents.

I cannot remember his username...it might be in the ebay alert thread somewhere.

Also even with my intercooler I do not use one of these "performance intakes" becuase the stock air filter filters better and can draw in much cooler air when going down the road.

I bought one of these kits. Call me a loser if you like. I am trying to make more room under the hood for a WVO conversion. Anyways, since the seller will probably read this I will try to be nice. The kit is not a "K&N type" mass produced item. It seems to be homemade. I am not sure why, maybe because I have a Euro model, but most pieces needed to be cut or adjusted to fit. I felt a little like Jesse James in the Monster Garage cutting and bending up pieces. The instructions would really benefit from a few pictures.

Does it give me more power and better fuel mileage? No clue.

Well be careful....WVO lines and system stuff would NOT benifit from being close to the turbo exhaust side or the exhaust pipe...

This space is almost useless anyway unless you put some sort of heat shield as that turbo gets H.O.T

Have some photos?

Well maybe he has come up with some kinda turbo heat exchange?? i know one guy on the greasecar forum had put copper piping next to the exhaust pipes for the veggie fuel so it wouldnt gel under the car in cold weather.

The bolds give it a nice touch...I deleted most of my stuff and I think most of his "stuff" was too

The emails were FAR more enjoyable...but they are since deleted

And I defintely did NOT happen to run a couple programs that told me what type of machine he was running, where he lived, and allowed access to anything...

Nope...never happened

I got bored...what can I say

Never thought of that...though I did have the hair brained idea of putting a WVO tank where the center resonators go under the car and use the exhaust pipe to heat the WVO

I was thinking of putting a small WVO tank here, maybe using an old fire extinguisher.

Yea, a heat shield is part of the plan as well.

Sorry, I tried posting a picture, would only allow 65k, whats that, about as big as a stamp.

While I am not defending the product- has anyone done a test to see what the air temp difference is from the front of the car to the inside? How long does it take to get air hot? Is the air there that long? When your car is moving 40mph it seems to me the air is not there very long, and certainly not all of it comes from the radiator.

Just keep in mind that if you DO put WVO system stuff near/on the exhaust close to the engine...when your WVO system is not running you risk getting the oil too hot as the Turbo can reach temperatures in excess of 900F if extended periods of heavy boost are used.
