How My diesel got its name

My 1983 24D was named Tractor, because it runs on diesel and smells like
a farm tractor when I fill it up.

We have an 81 240D that has a stick. My wife has yet to name it...

How did diesel get its name?

Like how did the diesel engine get its name? Its named after Rudolph Diesel, that wonderful guy that started all of this.

The inventor of the diesel engine was Rudolf Diesel. Some people feel there is some connection between his last name ( Diesel) and the engine ( diesel), but I think its just coincidence

My W126 (S) class diesel is named "Wotan". For those few of you who are not into Wagnerian opera---come on, admit it, there must be a few of you out there-- Wotan was the king of the gods in the 4 opera "ring" cycle. An "S" class that is king of the gods, OK!

Diesel wanted to name it after the D-cell battery, but people got it confused.

Look, it's bad enough to know opera details, but to admit it in front of your diesel brethren!!!!????

My wife's people are from Denmark. The old joke is that when they came
thru Ellis Island, the head of household was asked his occupation. It translated as Diesel fitter. Turns out he was a women's clothier "ya, dis
will fit her".

Some of you have great names for your cars-- pet names. That's what I'm
interested in!

Ok gotta type this fast so the gf won't see it. The '85 is named "Rachel" for a very important girl in my life who now won't speek to me. That's part of the reason I'm trying so hard to resurect it even though its wrecked. The bimmer is "Stephannie", for my current gf. The '84 stands unnamed.

Nickname

I purchased my dark blue 81 300 SD from my father-in-law. My mother-in-law has a light blue 86? 560SL. They nicknamed his car "Big Blue", and her car "Baby Blue".

When I bought "Big Blue", I renamed it "Double B" -- both for "Big Blue" and "Barouche Box" -- a fancy 19th century carraige.

Hi,
My name is Chris and I am not into Wagnerian opera or any other opera.
I don't think I have a problem.

My 84 300d euro will be referred to as the Vegaholic when I get the convertion completed. I just recieved the filter this week.

I named the SDL "money pit" A very well earned name, she is the spoiled b**** that sucks down $5k a year in parts and requires lots of attention.

The SD is known as "the beater" well because their is not much good about that car. Body is shot, interior is beat, suspension is tired, engine is ehh. But she's a runner.

My dad calls them junkers, clunkers, and old bomb.

"The Green Goddess" was the name of a 300td of the same color a couple of my skeet shooting friends owned in England....they saw mine, chatted it up, and the rest is history as they say. Kinda odd, a car named after a salad dressing. As the car is still new to me, I reserve the right to change that name should it start to act like less lady like!

The 250 is unnamed and shall leave that way. My 300 has been named Tabitha by the lovely young lady in my life. No idea where she got that name but I like it quite a bit so it stuck.

Persoanlly I think naming cars like a dog is wierd. If you say it's a beater or a money pit, fine. I thought you all might want to know there are a few out there that have this view.
