EGR & Engine Temp
Since my EGR "got broked" I've noticed that the engine takes a lot longer to warm up and never runs above 75C. At times it will runs around 65C. I would suspect that the engine would run cooler if you're not putting exhaust gases into the intake, but should it run this cold? When I turn on the heater, engine temp will drop to 60C and the air isn't warm. Any thoughts or suggestions? No, "Un-breaking the EGR" isn't an option. Thanks in advance!

Check your thermostat. Disabling the EGR shouldn't cause engine temps to drop like that.

The 617's are cold beasts. This one typically takes at least 10 minutes to reach 80°C. if the boost is not used.
If you are not making 80°C. then the thermostat is the likely culprit. This is especially true since your lack of heat seems to confirm the engine is running cooler. The loss of EGR won't affect the final temperature allowed by the thermostat. |

Don't sweat the EGR "breaking" a lot worse could happen.
I think the t-stat needs to be attended to to correct the engine temp problem. I believe that they are 2 unrelated problems.

Thank you all! I'll change it this weekend. Considering replacing engine with a new Audi R-10 Diesel! Yeah, right!
