Did anyone see the CNN special predicting Global Turmoil becuase of fuel shortages?

I saw the thing on CNN yesterday when they described last year's Fuel Oil Crises...the hurricane in Texas damaged a major petroleum processing plant and pipeline link and simultaneously, terrorists sabotaged oil refineries in Saudi Arabia. To add to the carnage, China, whose oil thirst is rapidly increasing, offered Nuclear Technology to Iran in exchange for Oil Shipments..an expert theorized that fuel might climb to $8.00 a gallon the next time we have a similar crises..
I know we Dieselheads, know for thrift, ingenuity and resourcefulness have nothing to do with this.. I never bought a car for more than 2200 and boy I'm thrifty, and we're innocent...but sooner or later, someone will have to foot the thirst of world fuel shortages...
I'm sure mankind is resourceful ,and maybe in the longterm this will be a good thing as it will stop global warmimg, but does anyone believe, as I do, that change is imminent?

My feeling on it is this, whatever you see on the news is total Bullschit, there is always an agenda, and fear and control of the people is a huge motivator for the powers that be. My feeling on it is this. So what if the whole world and economy comes to a crashing halt. How much worse can it be then now. There are to many people on the planet, consuming too much of its resources and its not like we are due for a major shift. But again the bottom line is this, whatever you think you know, its probably wrong, and whatever they are telling you is most certainly wrong. I refuse to live in fear. Go make love to your lady, hug your kids, scratch your dog's ears, eat well, sleep well, and well, tommorrow you could die anyway so what is there to actually worry about. Not my kids college, not my retirement, not buying some new junky car for 20k, not a mortgage on a 500,000 home, not nothing. Love to all, The Kid

In a way, I'm not scared, you know why? Cause I didn't cause it, and I can't fix it. The only thing that does scare me is I would hate for the US to be a second rate nation, because it did do a lot of good things for this world, and fundamentally the people are very decent and honorable..I dont think some other nations, if they did become world powers becaus of their economic power, would accept as many immigrants from different races, nations and places as the US did and treat them as equals....

Yep saw that CNN feature here in Malaysia via satellite yesterday. Initial reaction..? I think it's silly for CNN to hand out ideas to idiot terrorists around the world.

Also, my next car will be Hybrid, Benz or otherwise.

Yeah I guess during the 50's I'm surprised the Cold War didn't erupt...but, we were still living in the shadows of the Post Victorian age, and the Soviet Union and China both remembered how terrible WW II was...so this kind of held everything in check... but look, things are changing, I mean you have twice the amount of people in this world in the next decade competing for slimmer amounts of fuel & people in the USSR, China and India want their cars too and everyone wants economic growth also and fuel is kind of important..and the have-nots fly planes into skyscrapers, so now where once had at least some reason, we have minimal reason now.. Well, I'm an optimist, and even if I weren't, I'm not going to be thinking about this tomorrow at work..but I don't think things are as simple at the beginning of the 21st century as they were in the 20th century's outset...
OF COURSE, next week when I am back home, that ain't gonna stop me from sanding my 85 300D and painting it...I think the funniest thing about us humans is how clever and how stupid we can be at the same time...

I'll take a 600SEL if anyone has one they want to give away The way (lead foot) and quantity I drive means I use up plenty of dinosaurs as it is though.

As for fuel, if diesel goes over $2.90 a gallon I'll be switching to sam's club clear fry oil (soy oil), it works out to being about $2.79-2.83 a gallon or so, takes about 3 cubies to fill the tank perfillup, not bad! I have one on the porch I will try out when its warmer out.....

Why can't you use the fry oil now?

I didn't see the CNN report but it is just a matter of time till the next crisis comes along and crude oil prices sky-rocket. What I do is I buy several crude oil calls, several months out in the future. I buy them cheap enough so I don't really care if they expire worthless, but when the next squeeze comes, it's "pay off the mortgage time".

It works out to about $2.83 a gallon to use it, so it still costs more than diesel at $2.64..........temperature wise I could be running it though, it was even completely liquid down to about 15 degs outside, I bet it'd run perfectly fine....I'm just so paranoid to dump it in.....what if I clog the filter.......or have other probs......
