How to Remove the Sunroof Cable W126 300SD

Read the posts on removing, refurbing, lubing the sunroof.

Cannot find the one that says how to get out the sunroof cable.

From the interior ? or from the trunk ?

I am thinking from the sunroof side/interior.

1983 300SD. Did it once 15 years ago, have forgotten how.

Also, seems my dragging slow to close sunroof is because of headliner.
With the headliner panel out, sunroof is perky and works as expected.
Put panel in, and sunroof seems to bind. Noticed it right when I was
sliding in roof panel, way too tight.
Any ideas how to solve this ?

It comes out from INSIDE the car..

The interior sunroof headliner must first be removed.

Sunroof

www.**************.com has a book on how to overhaul your sunroof. The cable is removed from inside the car after the inside panel is removed. The cable is pretty long as it extends into the trunk of the car so you might want a helper to help you remove the cable as its covered in messy grease. Gloves also are a good thing to use when you are doing this as its difficult to grip the lubricated cable. Be VERY careful when putting pressure on the cable as the sunroof cable tube seems to be very easy to bend. I did mine due to a failure and ended up having to do it again because I did not pay much attention to the wear on my sunroof cable and because of the mounting clips on the sunroof tube and the motor assembly. GOOD LUCK!!!
