Funny Roll-thunk sound when I turn - A Story
Since 1984 when I bought my 300D I have experienced a roll-thunk
sound when turning. It sounded like something in the door, steering was always okay and everything seemed to operate. I had taken door panels off and found an odd left over part, but after taking out the loose stuff, still had clunk. Fast forward 22 years. Two months ago when I took out the drivers seat to rebuild it I found a golf ball trapped inside the forward metal chamber under the front seat. It had been rolling back and forth during turns but would not fall out onto carpet.

You've had a golf ball rolling around under the seat of 22 years. Wow! I would have chased that noise down long ago. What year is the car, is it the 80 in your signature?

Well, its probably a good thing money wasn't wasted trying to chase down the sound, and it was eventually found through normal maintenance.
