Driver headlight inop.

A friend of mine asked me to post this for him.

Quote:
I have an unusual problem with my 83 300d. The left headlight will not turn on. I checked the connector with a test light and it is dead. The harness and connector are not damaged and if you are familiar with that harness, it goes into a larger harness and is concealed. The right one works fine. I thought you may pose this question on the forum you are active on and see if there are any likely solutions. Would appreciate your help.

Check fuse?

Not familiar with the electrical system of the 123 but in my 116 300SD's the left and right headlights are on separate fuses.

I never checked personally, but alot of these cars have each headlight on a seperate fuse. Thats a good place to start. Check voltage at the fuse while you have the cover off too.

I had this problem before. Tell him to take the headlight and the head light bucket out. There are some soldered connectors that will break and come loose, preventing the headlight from operating.

Its a stupid design, and is very prone to corrosion.

Corroded fuse #4 did the trick.
