ALDA doesnt kick in when cold

Anyone else have this problem? Its not the overboost valve, bypassing it does not help. Its almost like an electric issue because once it does kick in its fine, park the car for 20minutes and it doesnt work again. Although the delay, once warm is much shorter. The colder it is, the longer the delay. This is on the 87.

Unfortunately that means removing the IP. But I have to do that here soon anyways as it is leaking oil from my adjustment last weekend. I also have a spare I can swap on. I am pretty sure I dont want to remove it altogether.

MIGHT be worth just dripping a bit of atf in the line going down to the alda and let it run down in there, might free it up. Have anything to lose?

Remove it. Unplug the rack sensor and there'll be enough space to get it turning and removed.

The electrical theory will go out the door if you bypass the valve.

Agreed on the removal of the alda. Harbor Freight has a "Service Wrench" set in metric that will work well at loosening the alda. That intake does not need to come off either. It's a snug fit but can be done. I've done it several times. Also look at ALL the pressure lines and crossover valve for clogs. Most people forget that a good portion of the sludge is from the oil being drawn into the turbo from the valve cover vent and blown through the intake. This will thicken as it gets colder.

There is not enough room to remove it without removing the intake. I will be removing the IP this weekend either way and replacing the ALDA.

Not sure why yours would be different but on my '87 it comes out fine. Just a tight squeeze to get it out. If you are going to remove the intake, a good cleaning maybe in order to prevent more soot/sludge from clogging the lines again. I plan on installing an airsep to keep oil mist from entering the turbo and blowing more sludge into the intake.

There is some discussion about this elsewhere. Some you can some you cant. I got the ALDA off (flopping around) but there is not enough clearence to get it out of the nut it sits in.

Sucks that it won't come out. I know there was a mid-year change on these cars but not sure what the changes were. Maybe that is one of them? I eliminated my EGR shortly after getting my 300D. The stupid oil mist being sucked into the turbo and being blown through out the intake finds it's way everywhere, even with just a little blow by. I clean out my lines when I change the oil. Carb cleaner works well for this.

87 doesn't need the wastegate modification. It's already pressure activated. its the 90-93 that vac controlled. (unless there is another wastegate mod)

Thanks... I had a feeling I fubared that one. Thanks.

It still doesn't sound like an alda issue, though. Switchover valves seem more likely
