Getting Somewhere

OK.

Mike I'll PM this to you as well.

Well some of this is my misunderstanding and some of it is still messed up and hopefully I can get if fixed.

I did not have the 240D title in my posession. I had never opened the 240D title when I receved it a couple months ago. What I thought I had recieved the other day was the title. Infact that belonged to the 300D and it was the registration card.

So this title does belong to me and I've had it in my possession for quite some time. I just opened it yesterday though.

But here lies my problem again. The information on the Title is correct as to the notice of transaction submited that I still had for my 240D. Unfortuneate on my part after I handed the title to the DMV to have it all changed over that day before I picked it up from the junk yard they must have given me the wrong title and I was to much a dummy to check it.

So now here is what I have. I HAVE a 74 240D with no title. I OWN a 79 4D Gas 123 body.

So now what? Dummy me. Stupid rooky mistake buying my first MB from a Junkyard. The DMV is only 3 minutes from my house and the Junkyard. I just went straight over from the junkyard to the DMV and back and picked up the car. Never looked at it again and just stuck the title in my file folder. DUMB MISTAKE.

Jason,

If I understand what you are saying correctly, the junkyard gave you the title to the 1979 MB instead of the 1974 240D.

If this is the case, you need to get in touch with them ASAP, and get the correct title signed over to you so you can put it in your name. Tell them you will sign over the title to the 1979 MB to them when they hand over the correct title signed to you.

I CANNOT STRESS THE FOLLOWING ENOUGH:

DO NOT GIVE THEM THE INCORRECT TITLE BACK WITHOUT GETTING YOUR TITLE IN YOUR HANDS.

If you do this you have no leverage when they tell you a couple of weeks later that they can't find it, or it's in the mail, meanwhile they've got all they care about---their title! You think you have problems now you ain't seen nothing yet if this happens.

If the junkyard tells you when you inform them of the mistake that they do not have the title to your car, you have two options:
1)Tell them that they need to secure a replacement title to sign over to you, or
2)Tell them you want your money back(not an appealing option if you've sunk a lot of money into fixing it up already)

Do I still need to delve into what we discussed on the phone earlier, or have we settled the mystery of the incorrect title?

Mike,

Thank you that is very helpful. This junkyard is one of the biggest in Portland but they are still pretty shady. I know a couple of the guys that used and still do work there, though they have no pull, I think they are in enough that they will not be complete boogers about it.

Luckily I have done nothing to the car other than just pay $100 to get a crankshaft for it. I wanted to learn rebuilding this car. Haven't done a bottome end repair yet. Anyway that is all I have into it. Poor thing has been sitting in the garage driveway all this time waiting for a crank.

Thank you for all of your help. That is extremely awesome of you. I'm sure I may be contacting you again if anything to let you know it is all taken care of.

Thank you very much,
Jason

Well to keep you all updated I finally got the problem taken care of today with my title. They gave me the wrong title and I never paid enough attention the day I got it to notice it was the wrong one as I was in a real hurry.

Today they gave me a lien title and I gave them the other title back. A 54 dollar mess up for not paying attention. I guess it could have been worse and I learned a good lesson from the ordeal.

Now I hope this all works. I never had to deal with a lien title before but talking to other people it sounds legit and the guy I dealt with was a little leary about why it took so long for me to find this out but was nice about it ( I think only becuase I was in Uniform)

Anyway thank you for all the help and hopefully next week I can get down to the DMV and will have the correct title on the way.
