Title (NOT MINE)
 

Ok I have some wierd stuff going on here.

The other day (one week ago) I recieved a Oregon title. I figured it was for the 83 300TD I just purchased. I didn't even open it. I figured wow that came fast.

Yesterday I was looking through the title folder and realized I hadn't opened it so I did. The title was for a 1979 MB 123 4dr Gas. Thinking they really messed up a bit I looked at the rest of the information. Plate number is different and VIN. Has a Title Brands but nothing commented in it other than -NONE-.

I went to the DMV this morning and they said...Well...we can't do anything about it. It is your officially so we can't take it from you. They said it must have gotten mixed up from a dealer or something or who really knows. So I left knowing nothing.

Some other Odd things are that (stupid me I mixed up the envelope or lost it so i don't know about postage dates) but it was processed 113005. About the same time I bought my first Mercedes but a 74 240D and I have the title for that. Got it about 2 months ago. Other wierd thing is the passanger registration on the bottom says expiration date is Jan 31, 01.

I'm figureing I better have this flagged so I don't end up getting in trouble when someone crashes the car, or gets a parking ticket and I end up getting screwed. Unless there are any other ideas out there that it could be beneficial. But I really don't want to screw someone over with the car if they are looking for it. I'd like to get it back to them but the DMV said they can't do anything about it after looking on the computer. They said unless someone contacts you the car is yours.

I don't know if anyone on here can find any information but here is all I have on this thing that wasn't mentioned above.

That is pretty much all the info I have. I'll take any advice I can get on here in the next couple days. Otherwise I'll call the PD and see what is up. Who knows maybe someone gave me a car and I just don't know it :) haha yeah right!!

I would get online and find the number of the DMVs main office and explain your situation and tell them that the local office said they couldn't do anything and this is not acceptable. Better yet, write them a letter. Next would be writing the state attorney general then the governor's office and your state representitive. If they are no help or take to long there is always the media.

Since your legally liable I wouldn't let this wait. Start a CYA file.

I tried calling the main office in Salem. The phone rang for over a minute and nobody picked up and no voice mail.

Who did you buy the car from? Have you tried talking to them?

I never bought the car. I have no car like that what so ever. I have 3 mb's. I have titels for 2 of them already in my posession and I went to the DMV and the wagon I just bought is still being processed and all info is correct on that. This thing came out of nowhere? The guy said at the DMV that this is just a cawinkidink that it is an MB I find that hard to beleive.

You have 1 car without a title right? Where did you buy that one?

I find it interesting that if it is a mixup that the other title is for a mercedes as well. The fact that the registration expires in year 01 makes me think that this is a database error of some sort. I would have the DMV verify that this title is legit. Then tell them to stop using Microsoft products :D

I bought a 1983 300TDT about 3 weeks ago from a guy in Eugene. The title that he had given me was all correct and matched up with the car. I checked with the guy at the DMV and he checked thy system and said that that Title work is all clear and is still in processing. he checked it with my "notice of transaction" slip. He said this could not have gotten here that quickly anyway, as it takes weeks for the titles to process.

So this title belongs to someone else entirely.

So you have title for your 115, your 123 sedan and a mystery 123 gasser, and the title for your wagon is still processing? Find that gasser and send the quarter panel to me! :silly: You should be able to find where the gasser was last registered...maybe you could track it down.

I've been trying to track it down. I have talked to police but no help. I'm still waiting for the auto theft dept to call me back. They ran the plate and said all was good and that it was registered to me. I didn't ask about the vin number but it doesn't show up on a carfax. I'm assuming because it is a 79 car and carfax doesn't go that far back.

Yep have my titles for my 2 115's and the title for the 123 wagon is on the way and correct. I have a mystery 79 123 gasser:). Hopefully I can get somewhere with this soon. I've talked to a S#$% load of people and no help. And of course still no one answers their phone at the state DMV office.

Sounds as bad as the title center in Georgia.:eek:

I bet its a data entry error or a corrupted data base. I bet you'll get more help if you tell them that the registration is due to expire in 2101. :D

Yeah they sure like to suck the money from us. But then again Oregon is about the cheapest place to drive a car.
