I have a 1981 300 SD with 170,00 mi on it and there is a engine noise. you cant really hear it at idle but once you get up around 1500rpm it gets louder. its only bad when accelerating but it is also there at crusing speed. it sounds like a taping sound. there is no pattern it just seems to do it when ever it wants. could this be valves, injector etc....? anyone else have similar problems and fix them? what is involved in order to fix it. i was planning on checking/adjusting the vavles to proper clearences this weekend. i also plan to run some diesel purge i got from diesel giant this weekend too. think this could fix it? any input would be greatly appreciated

knocking? knocking under acceleration is possibly main bearings.

Did you check your air filter housing mounts?
